Levla vs Habitica: which RPG habit tracker should you use?

Levla and Habitica both turn habits and to-dos into an RPG, but they motivate you in opposite ways. Habitica is the long-running, free, open-source original: a pixel-art character, parties and boss quests, and missed Dailies that cost health. Levla is newer: a full habit and to-do tracker with an idle RPG where your character adventures in the background, leveling 18 RuneScape-style skills. Missed habits in Levla don't cost health or items; stakes become optional when Patch 22 arrives. Choose Habitica for built-in stakes and co-op play; choose Levla for a modern planner and a deeper game built on rewards.

The biggest difference: stakes or momentum

Habitica motivates you with consequences. Every Daily you miss costs health when your day resets, and if your health runs out you lose a level, all your gold and a piece of gear. On a party quest, your missed Dailies hurt your friends as well. That works brilliantly for some people and drives others away.

Levla motivates you with momentum. Everything you complete earns Stamina, XP and Coins, and your character turns them into progress on idle adventures of 1 to 8 hours. Missing a habit never costs health, gold or gear; the main thing you lose is that habit's streak. You can also skip or snooze a habit on days you can't do it.

Patch 22 adds optional Stakes for people who want consequences: you'll be able to put coins or items on the line, take a debuff, or agree a real-life forfeit. In Habitica, stakes are built in; in Levla, they'll be something you opt into.

Habit and to-do tracking

Both apps cover habits, recurring tasks and one-off to-dos. Habitica splits them into Habits (positive or negative), Dailies and To Do's, plus a rewards column for treats you price in gold. Levla is built as an everyday planner: flexible habits with checkboxes, timers and counters, a to-do system with lists, priorities and reminders, effort levels, daily reflections and stats. Habitica has no built-in progress charts; its FAQ points you to a data export instead.

The game

Habitica's game is about your character's survival and collection. You level up, choose a class at level 10, collect pets and mounts, and fight bosses with your party.

Levla's game is closer to an idle MMO. It has 18 skills, including Woodcutting, Fishing, Mining and Blacksmithing, plus monsters and dungeons, farming, crafting, ten equipment slots, guilds and a player-run Trading Post. If you've played RuneScape, it will feel familiar.

Social features

Parties are Habitica's strongest social feature: up to 30 players, shared boss quests and challenges. Habitica removed its Guilds and public Tavern chat in 2023. Levla's social side is its economy and guilds: you trade with other players, earn reputation with guilds tied to your habits and compare progress on the leaderboard. Patch 22 adds a friends system, trading between friends, shared to-do lists with real-life prizes for whoever finishes a task, and 1-on-1 Oaths and Duels for holding a streak together.

Price

Both are free to use. Habitica's subscription ($4.99 a month or $47.99 a year) mostly adds collectibles and cosmetics. Levla's membership ($5.99 a month, $49.99 a year or $99.99 lifetime) adds members-only regions, quests and conveniences, and never boosts XP or drop rates. Levla has no ads.

Which should you choose?

Choose Habitica if consequences motivate you, you want to play with a party, you want to play the game itself in a web browser, or you love the classic pixel-art style and its huge community.

Choose Levla if you want a planner you'll use every day, you'd rather be rewarded than penalized, you like idle games or RuneScape-style skilling, or you want a game that keeps going while you're busy.

Common questions

FAQ

Is Levla better than Habitica?

It depends on what motivates you. Habitica is better if stakes, party boss fights and playing in a browser matter to you. Levla is better if you want a full habit and to-do planner with a deeper idle RPG, hand-drawn characters, no ads and no health penalties for missed habits.

Is Levla free like Habitica?

Yes. Both are free to use. Levla's habits, to-dos and reflections are unlimited on the free plan with no ads, and its optional membership adds members-only regions, quests and conveniences.

Does Levla punish you for missing habits like Habitica?

Not by default. Missed habits in Levla never cost health, gold or gear, and your character only takes damage in combat. A missed day can reset that habit's streak, and you can skip or snooze habits on days you can't do them. Patch 22 adds optional Stakes, so you'll be able to put coins or items on the line if you want real consequences.

Does Levla have friends or parties like Habitica?

Not yet. Today, Levla's social features are guilds with weekly goals, a player-run Trading Post, leaderboards and public profiles. Patch 22 adds a friends system, trading between friends, shared to-do lists, and 1-on-1 Oaths and Duels for holding a streak together.

Can I use Levla on the web like Habitica?

Partly. You can manage your habits and to-dos in a web browser at todos.levla.app, which is handy at work, but the game itself is on iPhone and Android. Levla's website also has the official wiki, live Trading Post prices and player profiles.

Which is better for RuneScape fans, Levla or Habitica?

Levla. Its 18 skills, idle adventures, members content and player-run Trading Post are much closer to RuneScape than Habitica's class-based game.
