Habitica vs Finch: which is better for building habits?

The real difference: stakes or kindness

Habitica works on loss aversion. Your character has health, and every Daily you miss takes some away when your day resets. Run out and you lose a level, your gold and a piece of gear. In a party, your missed Dailies damage everyone during a boss fight, so your friends are counting on you.

Finch removes the threat. Completing goals gives your bird energy for its daily adventure, and when you have an off day your bird simply has less energy. Reflection prompts, mood check-ins and breathing exercises sit alongside, so Finch is as much a self-care companion as a habit tracker.

Choose Habitica if…

• consequences and streaks you don't want to break keep you going
• you want to team up with friends in parties and boss fights
• you want a web app as well as phone apps
• you like a classic RPG, with classes, pets and mounts

Choose Finch if…

• pressure makes you give up
• you want mood check-ins, reflections and breathing tools
• you'd like a companion that cheers you on
• your goals are mostly about self-care rather than productivity
