Hello Levlans, I'm finally back with another update!
As usual here at Levla, this is another huge patch, and one I'm personally very excited to finally have out.
I've worked on this update every single day for over 3 weeks now, for a crazy amount of hours. I'm really sorry it took this long, but I felt I needed to take my time with this one.
This update is all about giving Levla a visual overhaul, and every single surface in the app has changed. That means these patch notes won't cover every change, because that would turn into a 300 page book haha!
So let's get into what has changed, why I made these changes, and what to expect going forward! <3
Update on the app stores
This update requires you to update the app from either the play store or app store depending on what device you're on, so make sure to check it out as it should now be available for everyone (or very soon)
Your feedback matters!
This update changes the core look and feel of Levla, some of Levlas old "DNA" was lost in the process and is intended to be reimplemented in a better way than before in a future update.
Therefor, it is super important that you as the users of Levla give me feedback on how this update feels, if you like it and where I went wrong (if I did!).
As always, I'll be reachable in our discord server and will do a follow-up patch later this week!
Thank you again for being part of this journey <3
Lag & Boot Improvements
Let's start with an important one, and one that will probably be just as noticeable as the visual overhaul: almost all lag issues have been resolved in today's update.
The app should feel much smoother and snappier, especially around the inventory, but also anything that affects your character in any way.
On top of that, I rewrote how the app boots, which should help a lot on slower devices. You'll notice this from your second boot onwards, since the first one needs to initialize some new systems.
Let me know in discord how it feels!
Potion Changes
Potions now expire once fully used mid-adventure. Previously, if you had 5 minutes left on a potion when an adventure started, it would last the full adventure. That's no longer the case.
This is especially important for adventures in Jezkal Mountain, where Freeze Ward potions give you frost protection.
The Visual Overhaul
Now, let's get into the visual overhaul, as mentioned before in this post, some of Levla's "DNA" was stripped away in this update, and that was intentional, as my way of implementing a "medieval" look was actually hurting UI & UX and onboarding new users, I have the intentions of reimplementing this in a future update when we can get a real designer to take a look at how it can be done in a good fashion!
Why change?
3 weeks ago when I started working on Patch 21 (the social update), I was adding new functionality in a lot of places, and I couldn't help but feel that the app felt very bloated.
Levla is a very complex app with tons of functionality and customization, but I don't think the bloat came from that. It came from how the UI and UX was presented, and I believe the app can be a lot clearer and easier to use just by changing around the design.
This wasn't only a problem for you as users (especially new users), but also for me as a developer. The app is so huge that maintaining it as a solo dev was near impossible, since we had no design system in place, which is why the app looked so different in various places.
And therefor, I decided that it was time to finally setup a clear system for this moving forward, so it's not only easier to use but also to develop and maintain for me!
What has changed
Every single surface has received an update to help with readability and clarity. Levla now follows a clear design ruleset to make sure all interfaces look and feel the same.
Some interfaces have also gotten a complete redesign, specifically the most viewed ones in the app: creating habits and todos, the details view for habits and todos, item details and much more.
I've been testing the new design with our very own testing team and gotten a lot of good feedback. It might take a few days to get used to, but I've heard from our testers that after that it's MUCH better than before, and it should be much quicker to get into for new users too.
Best way to see it is to update and experience it yourself, so make sure to hit up the app stores to update to the latest version!
Still WIP
Some parts aren't fully migrated or settled yet. The character adventure home is a hard one to solve since it has so much information and actions, and it will get another refresh in Patch 22.
The Trading Post and Guilds are also not migrated, as those are getting a complete refresh in the social update in Patch 22!
Membership Clarity
We've made the limitations of membership much clearer and now enforce them properly.
Before this update it was actually possible to bypass membership gates, which not only added confusion but basically made membership obsolete.
If you notice any issues with this, let me know in Discord!
