π΄ Levla Content Patch 17
Good day Levlans, hope you all are having a good start to the new week!
I've got a lot to cover in this one. New content, launch date, what happens next, and some important stuff about the future of Levla. Let's get into it.
π Levla is Launching in June
After 8 months of development and over 2 months of playtesting, I believe it is finally time to open up the doors to the public.
I am very satisfied with the current state of Levla. The core foundation (Todos, Habits, Reflections) has been production-ready for a long time, and the amount of content I can produce now is amazing. The app is far from done, there is always more to build, but at some point I have to launch it, and I think that time is now.
I am eager to get more user feedback and see how well Levla is received outside of our close-knit community!
This week is all about tidying up and finalizing the last content for launch, so expect a lot of content updates. The goal is that there will be content for at least a month worth of grinding.
βοΈ 16.2 New Content
Forgotten Pass (Free to Play)
A new monster slaying region! An old trade road between the port and the inland settlements. The carts stopped coming months ago. The forest closed in behind them.
7 new monsters, levels 16-44. Unlocks after completing Reclaiming the Hillside.
O'Gleeb's Grotto (Premium)
A premium grind zone hidden within the Forgotten Pass, locked behind a quest. An ogre named O'Gleeb needs your help, and he has a very specific idea of what a raft should look like.
4 new monsters, levels 40-60. The best herb farming and mithril drops in the game, with a couple of adamant lottery pieces for the lucky ones.
O'Gleeb's Troubles (Premium Quest)
A new quest to discover and unlock the grotto. Involves building something ridiculous for someone who calls swords "da shiny stabbies." You'll understand when you meet him.
π Character Reset at Launch
As I have been clear with on Discord, a few days before launch there will be a full character reset.
This is a controversial topic and I have been torn on it, but the truth is for the sake of the game's health, economy and newcomers, this is needed.
The way we will be progressing in Levla post-launch is not the same way we progressed during playtesting, and countless balance changes have been made since the start.
I also believe it will be the most enjoyable experience for all of us. The content available at launch is early game, and everything that comes post-launch progresses from that point onwards. Many of you are already in mid-to-late game stat wise and the content just has no meaning anymore.
NOTE: Your habits, todos, reflections and essence will stay with you. There will also be some special rewards for all who participated in the playtest (discontinued cosmetics & titles)
π― What to Expect Before Launch
In Patch 16, we released our new progression system which gave all resources, monsters and quests a place in the world. This was slapped on top of our current navigation, and one of my primary goals this week is to improve that.
The goal is to minimize clicks while still making it feel like everything has its place.
I will also be focusing on:
- Adding at least 1 more region like Port Kelda
- Finishing up the first two guilds and the first batch of content for them
- Fixing all bugs reported in Discord
- QOL improvements
Feature wise, we are done for launch.
π Thank You, Playtesters
I want to take a moment to talk about our playtest, because it has been a major success and I could not be happier with the community we have.
To think that over 50 people are using Levla as their daily driver for Todos, Habits and Reflections is crazy to me, especially with how rocky and buggy this playtest has been. Levla is a completely different app from where it started this March.
Last October I set a goal for myself to create the best app in the gamified RPG niche, no matter how long it would take. In March we opened the doors to our playtest, and honestly the intention was to just run it for 2 weeks, collect feedback and get back to work. As we all know, that is not what happened.
The amount of love, support and feedback you gave me was insane and I just had to take the opportunity and instead of going back in a cave and working on it myself, build it together with you.
So I want to thank each and every one of you who participated in the playtest so far. The app would not be anything near this without you!
𧑠To Our Patrons
Last week we launched a Patreon where you could support us ahead of launch, and the response has been amazing. Thank you to every single one of you who decided to back us this early on, it genuinely means the world to me.
I wanted to quickly mention that the patron rewards are still in the making, and trust me when I say you will not be disappointed. I hope to start having some reward-related conversations with you all next week!
If you haven't already, please consider supporting us on Patreon ahead of launch. You can find it by pressing the "Support us on Patreon" button on the settings screen. All patrons will be cemented into the world of Levla forever. The Patreon will be discontinued post-launch, so this is a limited window to get in early!
π° Monetization & Premium
I also want to briefly talk about our plans for monetization.
Believe me when I say that I wish I could make Levla free for everyone, but unfortunately that is just not possible. I have been building Levla full-time since October while living on savings and it is getting close to not being sustainable anymore. I wish to keep building Levla full-time together with my cousin (the guy behind the character art!) for as long as we can.
To do that we obviously have to monetize Levla somehow, and it is honestly very hard knowing where to put limits and where not to. It is most likely something that will change as I learn and adapt to what works.
So at launch there will be a Premium subscription, where 100% of the earnings will be re-invested into Levla. If you like what we're building and it's helping you be more productive or you're just enjoying the app, please consider supporting us β€οΈ
How much will it cost?
Monthly: $5.99 Yearly: $49.99 Lifetime: $129.99
What will I get?
We think it's the most fair to limit the amount of content available rather than core features. So as a premium user you can expect:
- More Locations
- More Quests
- More Monsters
- More Crafting Recipes
- More Equipment
- More Items (Farming, Gathering etc)
- More Pets (When they are released)
- Cosmetics
There will be no XP rate or drop rate boosts for premium users.
Premium users can also optionally have their name colored and a cool badge in front of their names, to show off that you're a supporter of Levla.
Note: There are more planned features for our members, but it will come post-launch
What about free users?
As a free user you will still be able to use Levla exactly like you are today. There will be no limits on Todos, Habits or Reflections, and there never will be.
The first three regions are completely free to play and there is plenty of grinding to be done there. At a certain point you will reach a wall where you've explored all available content, and then you can decide if an upgrade to premium is worth it!
There will also be new free to play content post-launch, but the priority will always be membership content. We got to make sure our servers are paid too so everyone can use the app!
Playtesters Premium
At the start of the playtest I promised premium membership at launch for our playtesters.
This is still happening but will be distributed to the most active users in our Discord community, to those who have shaped Levla into what it is today.
This membership will come in the form of a voucher which can be used in-game and sold on the Trading Post, so it is up to you if you wish to use it, sell it or even give it to someone else who might need it more!
I will not judge anyone for accepting and using it themselves, that was the whole point of it, so don't feel pressured into not using it. It is yours and you deserved it (if you got one).
Alright, enough yapping about this. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me through our Discord server which you can access from the bottom of this post.
