Patch 18 - Productivity, Performance & Pets

The biggest patch yet is here! Pets, a big batch of productivity features, major performance work across the app, and hundreds of fixes. Grab a snack, this is a long one!

Table of contents

Hello again Levlans, it's been almost 5 days since the last patch, and it's time for another banger of an update.

Since the last patch, I've been hard at work improving the app for everyone, going through an insane amount of bug reports, suggestions and crash logs, and it has finally arrived!

This is the patch of Levla that I'm the most proud of so far. I've reworked a lot of things to make sure using Levla is as good an experience as possible for all of our users.

Alright, let's get into it, but in all honesty, please grab a drink or something to snack on, because this is probably the biggest patch notes yet. Lots to go through!

PSA: Update From Testflight & Playstore

Before you get into these patch notes, remember that to get access to the latest version of Levla you need to update the app from the Play Store or Testflight if you're on iOS!

The updates that show up in-app are so called "Content Updates", and only updates the game world like items, npcs, quests and so forth!

Welcome to Levla, newcomers!

Since our official Android launch, Levla has grown from a stable core of about 60 playtesters to over 300 daily active users, which to me is completely crazy. I am so happy to see that what me and the playtesters have been working on has resonated with people outside of our inner circle.

If you're new here, hello! I'm Mod Ed, and you're going to see me quite a bit, as you might notice from the older patch notes, since I tend to get yappy about what I'm building.

Together with my very talented art director cousin Mod Back, we build Levla!

I hope you newcomers will enjoy your stay here in the world of Levla, and that you might be just a little bit more productive in your day to day life!

Pro Levla Tip: If you stumble upon any bugs or feel that something might be missing, pop into our Discord. I read every single suggestion and bug report there, and I update the app on a weekly basis, sometimes even daily!

Note: I understand that communities aren't for everyone, but we are super duper friendly in here, so come say hi!

Side Note: An Important Upcoming Change

For those who may or may not know, Levla is heavily inspired by RuneScape. We grew up playing it together and it's always been a part of us.

Because of that, we wanted our art style to feel close to RuneScape, like a nod to where it all started for us. The creators of RuneScape have reached out, though, and asked us not to do that.

Which is totally fine! We take it very seriously and respect them, so over the coming days there will be some changes to our early progression gear and some cosmetics so they resemble our own universe instead of RuneScape's.

It's truly for the better, and we're grateful to the great people we spoke with over at Jagex!

Alright, enough of this, let's get into the update!

Patch 18 - Levla just Level'd Up (get it now?)

I really mean it when I say this patch touches every feature of the app, so there's some risk going into this deploy. The goal was to polish the app to be smoother, faster and more performant, and to slash all of the annoying bugs that followed us out of the playtest.

But as usual in our patch notes here at Levla, we start with the stuff that's fun!

Pets are here!

In today's update we introduce our new Pets system! As of today, pets act as collectible companions you can show off next to your character.

Our resources are very limited at the moment, so only one pet rolled out today, and that's the pet promised to our playtesters. Shortly after these patch notes go out, all playtesters should receive Gort, The Capybara along with a Companion's Tag that can be used to rename Gort (personally, I picked the name Pontus).

For the non-playtesters, don't worry! We plan on releasing a new pet that every user can unlock by staying consistent with Levla, already this week!

Pets, and "recolors" of them in the future, will be collectible from many different places in Levla: Habits, Guilds, Consistency, Dungeons, Gathering / Skills, and much more!

Hope you'll enjoy this one!

Productivity just got more productive

For this update, I decided to put some extra focus on the productivity side of Levla, which is just as important, if not more important, than the game world.

So this patch brings a lot of new features and changes that were suggested in our Discord server. Thank you so much for making Levla better by letting us know how you want to use it!

Periodic Habit & Todo Scheduling (v1)

A new scheduling configuration option is available now when setting up habits or recurring todos. This is our first version of it, so if you'd like to see improvements, please let us know in the Discord!

  • NEW: Periodic frequencies for habits and todos are here. You can now set a target of X completions per week (want monthly too? let me know in the Discord!)
  • NEW: Periodic habits are normal habits with a frequency set, but without fixed dates or days. Battle habits can be periodic too
  • NEW: Two modes to choose from:
    • Days - the habit leaves your Today view once completed for the day
    • Completions - the habit stays on your Today view until all completions are done
  • NOTE: Sticky habits cannot be periodic

Members Only: Habit / Todo Completion Types

Previously, habits and todos were completed simply by checking them off. I'm now introducing a new completion type configuration, which requires an action to complete a habit or todo. Here's what I got time to squeeze in for today's patch:

  • NEW: Standard - the default, classic completion type (check it off)
  • NEW: Stopwatch - starts a stopwatch and logs the time for analytics. When you stop it, the habit is marked complete and the result is logged
  • NEW: Timer - starts a timer you've set. When it finishes, the habit is marked complete and everything is logged

Habit Groups (previously Time Slots)

The time slot system is used by a lot of you, and we've wanted to expand on it for a long time. So today, we're renaming Time Slots to Groups. Groups act as containers that hold a bunch of habits, which you can use to build routines or just sort things better.

  • CHANGE: Time Slots are now called Groups. All of your current groups carry over and are fully backwards compatible
  • NEW: Multi-completion habits can now be split across multiple groups (e.g. "Brush teeth 2x")
  • NEW: The default groups can now be reordered however you like
  • MEMBERS: Members can create any number of custom groups

NEW: Task of the Day

A new concept called Task of the Day has been added! Every new day you open Levla, there's a 1 in 3 chance that one of your todos or habits for the day will be shiny and golden.

Completing that specific task grants you a 1.5x bonus on all its rewards, and in an upcoming update it will also give you a care package with some supplies for your next adventures!

Focused Adventures are now minimizable

Focused Adventures are used by a lot of you, and we heard how it was a bit annoying if your goal was to work through your habits or todos during one, since you couldn't leave the screen.

To fix this, we made Focused Adventures minimizable. You're limited to your Home Screen while minimized, though, so you stay focused!

Big Performance Enhancements

Another huge part of this update was making Levla feel much smoother, especially on lower-end devices. So today I rewrote pretty much every part of the app that was resource heavy. There isn't much to say about each one individually, so the full list is below. If you've had issues with any of these areas before, give them a try after updating!

  • PERFORMANCE: Huge boot time improvements on both Android and iOS
  • PERFORMANCE: Huge inventory performance boosts on first open
  • PERFORMANCE: Character screen performance boosts on first open
  • PERFORMANCE: Improved Home Screen performance
  • PERFORMANCE: Lowered CPU and battery usage
  • PERFORMANCE: Improved our Dialogue Engine, along with its UI/UX
  • PERFORMANCE: Improved the Daily Check-In dialog (performance plus minor tweaks)

  • PERFORMANCE: Improved performance on the Crafting screen
  • PERFORMANCE: Improved performance on the Shop screen

  • PERFORMANCE: Improved all of our confetti's performance, esp on habit & todo completions

Let me know how the app feels after these changes!

QOL

And as always, with every patch comes a lot of QOL updates which I also collect straight from our #suggestions channel in discord!

Combat Forecast (important)

The combat forecast system, which helps you understand how much food to bring, has been unified into a single system. Everything should be much more aligned and connected now, so let me know how it feels!

Alongside this change, we removed the fallback system that used to pull all of your food out of your inventory if you entered a combat adventure with no supplies selected. You must now always enter with supplies, otherwise you'll bring nothing!

Combat & Loadouts

  • NEW: A new battle report sheet has been added to combat overlays and the adventure log, with much richer details. More to come later
  • NEW: You can now "Save To" a loadout, which overrides it with whatever you currently have equipped
  • NEW: Loadout items now return to their proper tabs (requires a save-to / loadout update)
  • NEW: Items that are part of a loadout now have a special badge in the inventory, Trading Post, item detail sheet and shops

Inventory & Crafting

  • CHANGE: Inventory tabs are now reordered by drag and drop
  • CHANGE: To edit a tab, make it active, then press it to open the edit view
  • CHANGE: If you can only craft one item, it no longer instantly starts the crafting session. It now opens the bottom sheet instead

General Changes

  • NEW: You can now reorder your todo lists
  • NEW: Added a reminder notification if you have an unclaimed adventure after 24h
  • NEW: You can now start quests directly from the Quests screen
  • NEW: You can now disable the in-app Trading Post notifications
  • CHANGE: Private profiles are now a thing! "Hide from leaderboard" has been migrated into this. Visiting a private profile isn't possible from any page
  • CHANGE: Fixed some coloring in the time pickers on Android
  • UI: Many design improvements to our welcome / login screen
  • UI: Changed some animations in the Todo / Habit overlay
  • UI: Changed some animations in our bottom sheet scaffolding
