Defence determines how much damage you absorb and how often you dodge incoming attacks. Higher levels reduce the damage you take and improve your chance to avoid hits entirely.
Your dodge chance is rolled against the enemy's attack level, so stronger enemies will still test you. Leveling Defence helps you hold your ground.
Higher Defence also unlocks stronger armor and equipment, giving you even more survivability in tougher fights.
